Hello!
Been forever since I did a review on a hair dye!! I decided that since I havent used any foam type dye yet I wanted to do a review on this Hoyu Beautylabo Whip hair color that I picked up at a drug store.
There are several different series of foam style Japanese hair dyes out there but what made me attracted to this particular dye was its color selection, its lightening level and the cute packaging lol....
I mentioned in instagram how I was not impressed by this dye, I will show you why... D;
I have chosen this shade in Pearl Ash
Whip hair color comes in 18 different shades to choose from.
Here is before
It has been about 1&1/2 months since I have colored by hair last so I had about 1 1/2inch of new growth, my medium ash brown faded and I have bleached my hair last year, so about from mid of my hair they are slightly lighter,, kinda had a ombre going on.
You can watch the before, the process and the after in this video :)
After
I was really disappointed after I dried my hair and took a look at the inside of my hair it was not fully processed evenly. It didnt really lighten my new growth too well, my bleached ends were the only place it was fully colored in ash tone like the hair dye promo image,,,
I believe the dye was not evenly processed because the dye was really hard to apply since the consistency of the foam was really thick, it was also really messy to have to scoop out the foam dye with your hands in this cup container after looking at the mess I made trying to dye my hair with this I was not happy..
Another negatives
this dye really hurt my scalp it burn like crazy and since the dye had a thick consistency it was really hard trying to rinse out this dye took like 20 min just to rise out the dye cause it just kept of feeling slimy D;
with my past experiences with many other home dye this had to be the messiest, hardest to rise out and the color processed unevenly.
Color:
☆☆☆★★
didnt really color my new growth like the promo image
Application:
☆☆☆☆★
really messy!
consistency:
☆☆☆★★
Thick and hard to apply evenly
Overall:
I give it ☆☆☆★★
I would not really recommend this dye,, Im sure there is far better foam type dye than this one. It was just a hassle trying to clean up the mess and having to deal with painful burning scalp not worth it...
My hunt for perfect foam hair dye continues lol I got many recommendation on Kao Liese bubble foaming hair dye maybe I'll try that next :D
thx for stopping by hope this helps~
P.S.

have you ever tried the Palty brand?
ReplyDeleteI heard about that dye being kinda crappy so I avoided it; but I have to say compared to most European self hairdye color the Japanese brands kinda suck :/ I never get the color which is applied on the package, it's the one thing the Japanese are not THAT good at in my opinion :D (Palty ruined my hair. T__T" ) Hope your next experience will be better! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Kao/Liese one is pretty good, you should try it next time eki ^^
ReplyDeleteThat's odd. The dye worked quite differently on your hair than on mine. Maybe that's the difference between Asian hair and Caucasian hair after all. I used a different ash tone from this line and for me it lightened my hair a few tones and that was pretty much all. It also came out pretty evenly and I liked the application, just not that all it did was make me more blond instead of giving me a proper ash tone.
ReplyDeleteI've never dyed my hair before, but I know a lot of people who do use home dying kits and they are generally very messy, so I'm not too big on the whole process either. I think L'Oreal or one of the other salon brands just came out with foam dye as well, but I guess they've been around in Japan longer than in America!
ReplyDeleteHey Eki!! I've tried the Sublime Mousse from L'Oreal and it worked nicely for me. I used a color that was darker than my hair and it covered pretty well. Before I had this weird ombre thing going on too (but I did it on purpose...didn't look so great) so half my hair was this ashy brown color and the bottom half was just this orange-ish blonde. After I used the sublime mousse dye everything was almost one color!! You could still see the ombre if you looked closely in bright light, but other than that no one could really tell I had the extreme ombre hair before.
ReplyDeleteAww that smchucks! Well more reasons for keep shopping whoo♥ .. I usually use Liese bubble hair dye too. Love them!! Give it a try babe <(n.n<)

Too bad it didn't work wery well... but I can reccommend Sublime Mousse too!
ReplyDeleteThat sux.. :/ Thanks for the review! :)

Thank you for the review! I guess I won't be buying this!
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought it was some kind of food from the a quick glance at the first picture haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review because I always find myself buying products that look cute and I'm pretty sure I would have bought that if I didn't read your review!
I love the packaging so much! You make such amazing reviews. This makes me want to try it out
ReplyDeletegreat review eki :)
ReplyDeleteI think it still looks good though!
ReplyDeletethe packaging is so cute!!
ReplyDeletethats too bad it wasnt great ):
ReplyDeletei think your hair looks nice redone but i can understand -- its not what you wanted/expected + pain.. not worth it
The packaging is adorable though
this product is pretty cool !!
ReplyDelete3lin
Packaging certainly is cute...but I really recommend Liese! It works incredibly as a foam dye!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that about this dye :( Foam hairdyes aren't as good as they are advertised! I have a box of the new palty foam dye and have yet to use it, hopefully it isn't too bad. And the outcome of your hair is not that bad actually, you could say it's an ambre effect? :D
ReplyDeleteNow that's bad news, I wanted to try this dye but now seems like I'll skip.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Beauteen milky foam hair dye yet? You know, the one with Kumicky on the package...
I did and I'm pretty amazed with the result, though I used it on my virgin hair so I guess it's a whole different story ahah. What I liked most about it was the ease of use because as the name says it's a MILKY foam so it's got kind of a creamy texture which made it really easy for me to spread evenly (it can't disappear like foam). I had to use two boxes for my long hair though.
After 1 month my roots are starting to show so I will use it again soon... Maybe doing a review. :D
I've seen this dye in action, look for QiuQiu's video on youtube: it seems really messy to prepare and she had problems with some of the colour powder not disolving properly and clumbing :S Definitely an interesting product that needs lots of improvement
ReplyDeleteI can see why you're disappointed, the colour and everything whilst its not too bad, it wasnt as impressive as Liese/Loreal or hairdye that you use previously. I saw this on the shelves the other day and even the staff there was saying its a product thats very lacking D:
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I was wondering how often do you usually dye your hair?
Cheers!
Thank you for your review ~ I no longer dye my hair these days after I majorly damaged it with bleaching but it's good to know about these products in case I do start dying my hair again in future. Really disappointed with the results. Oh well...
ReplyDeleteI hate foam hair dyes because you are sacrificing color for foam. -____-
ReplyDeletePlease see my blog! Www.bejohnful.blogspot.com
O no~ that’s bad~ I never tried this, but I never thought of trying cuz it just didn’t seem like it would work out well ~ even though it does look quite cute ( which is the main reason that it makes me want to try! Lol) but thanks for the review ~ now I know I’ll never have to hesitate again!

The product looks cute! I've just dyed my hair recently so can't try it. So is this not as good as liese or palty? i think the colour outcome looks really nice!
ReplyDeleteyou should try hair foam from Palty! they are really good tho! i'm still making a review of one of their foams xD
ReplyDeletewahhh,.... the packaging was soooooooooooo cute !!
