Hi Hi~
Sorry to be absent this week,, I was trying to catch up on sleep and work =__+;;
Here is some of the pics from my Cali trip!! I had so MANY photos that I am separating them in 3 parts, food, sightseeing and hauls!! I forgot to take photos at some spots and I am mad that I didnt take my camera with when I went out,, some of the photos are low quality cause it was taken with my iPhone,, sorry.. ^^;;
I sure did had many great eats out there and I wish I could eat like this everyday :sniffs: Food is one of main reason I wanna live in Cali lol XD
Here are some of the stuff I ate~
I got their lunch special set with gyoza and added cha-su, menma*bamboo shoots* and egg :D~ the ramen was very close to what you will get in Japan! pretty authentic tasting~ yumm
the yumm factor rate: 5/5
Pretty good korean tofu place that serves you a fried small whole fish with your meal which was yumm~ :D the tofu soup itself was ok sorta missing some flavors,,
the yumm factor rate: 4/5
I could find their official website,, this place serve mostly Japanese dessert and food, looks really cute in the side and looked very japanese-y which I was amused by lol liked the selections on their menu. After deciding which crepe to order, I got the strawberry and banana a simple crepe that I like but only to find out it was not so Japanese-y,, the crepe was crispy and fell apart as soon as I bit into it which in Japan its NEVER crispy but instead the crepe are soft,, and also not like the displayed modeled crepe there was only whipped cream on the top and none in the inside of the crepe which I was disappointed in cause I ended up left with eating only banana and strawberry and not so crepe like.. overall not so good and not so authentic Japanese crepe =__=

I really wanted to go to kaiten *revolving* sushi place since it been ages since I've been to one and Sandra took me to this place in Rowland heights which was really neat and kawaii place~ very good prices, selection and good portions~ very good :)
the yumm factor rate: 4/5
I told Sandra I must go eat at Guy-kaku since its been ages and I really wanted Japanese yakiniku so she took me to this location in Huntington beach,, I wanted to tell you the location cause Gyu-kaku is a chain and they have several location but depending on the location they all tasted different and have different selection of food on their menu depending on the location so we found out that this Huntingtion Beach location tasted the best out of other Gyu-kaku location!
I really really liked their Happy hour menu! so cheap and so good~ oishi! :D very happy with this location the other one we went in Tustin was not good at all,,

visited mitsuwa to eat lunch and saw Kelly from himestyle working there~ the food they serve are all Japanese washoku *traditional* style food and it was very good with really good prices~
the yummy factor rate: 4/5
So I wanted to know the hype of this Taiwanese bakery/cafe cause Sandra told me there is LONG line all the time there and everyone are going ga ga over this place so we got in the line, got few breads and this cake,, I completely forgot to take bread pics... :fail: I have to say the bread were good but I had some similar in orlando from other Taiwanese bakery that was as good or better,, the cake on the other hand... not so good... =__= the sponge was ok but overall there was no flavor to the creme and the filling,, I guess I expected it to be like Japanese cakes and it was not comparable so I still dont know what the hype is with this place.. :sigh:

so after eating 85 degrees bake goods and being disappointed I searched on google "Japanese bakery Irvine" and this place popped up! I was super excited and happy to find this place~ apparently their creampan.net link doesn't exist which they should get on that and get that going lol so I have to say this place is really good! I hear they are popular that they sell out on most of their baked good so go there early! both times we went there they had different selection of bake good so I think they switch around depending on the days,, so the bake good it self tasted european style with Japanese twist and their famous Strawberry croissant was amazing! a must have if you go there~ :D also their curry pan was really good but their hotdog pan on the other hand not so good,, pan was good but not the hotdog itself lol ~

So this froyo place is my favorite!! I liked it so much that we went to place 3 days in the row lol X3 I love their matcha and their strawberry flavor so much! Compared to froyo prices here in MN this place is super cheap and they let you selfserve which non of the froyo places in MN let you selfserve which they can be cheap with the topping lol The frozen yogurt so cream almost tastes like ice cream and the cheese cake bits and the caramel filled choco bits are must have there~ ^__^

went we went to Marukai in costa mesa this Takoyaki stand was there~ I knew immediately that I had to have some lol I have much LOVE for takoyaki!! I think most Japanese people love takoyaki,, lol XD The price was good, tasted authentic and made fresh and the topping were right on with tons of bonito flakes!!
the yummy factor rate: 5/5
so one of other eats that I must eat was this place cause I LOVE seafood and I always saw this place in Rina's photos and on other bloggers post,, boy was I happy to eat at this place! I cant believe the prices so cheap! 1lb of shrimp for $8.99 ^__^ yummmm the Cajun fries were really good too~ if you love seafood and dont mind being messy go eat here!! :D
the yummy factor rate: 5/5
so Rina was telling me how big this Marukai are in Torrance so when we got there I see this stand~ ahh all the goodness of the things I love~ Japanese street food! I only got to try the takoyaki and their milk tea boba but it was good~ the takoyaki was not hot but cold so that was not a good thing when you are having a outdoor stand but tasted good,, all the other food looked good too~ :)
the yummy factor rate: 4/5
Hope you get to eat at some of the places I ate as well~ ^__^
ok next up Cali sightseeing and got to meet other blogger sweeties~

ReplyDeletewow I live in California, and I haven' t been to a lot of the places! Haha I really do agree on the Genki Living and the 85 bakery. Genki Living =/ the desserts aren't what I expect~and the 85 degree bakery is SUPER famous in Taiwan and all over China~but for some reason, the one here just doesn't taste as good as the one in TW =[ Sad. Thank you for the food post! I plan to try all of them =D

If you go to OC area again you should try the ramen place in Costa Mesa called Mentatsu! After going there I haven't been back to Shinsengumi ^^ Also there's good izakayas like Hondaya and Kappo Honda!

ReplyDeleteNext time you come to California, you should try Tsuruhashi or Anjin for yakiniku. There are other cute places too like Musha for izakaya or Gaja for okonomiyaki. Gaja has really good desserts too. So pretty and delicious. I think your food post was really good. Very nice pictures!

http://sweetraspberryjam.blogspot.com/
haha I can't believe you ate at all these popular places around me! XD I LOVE Yogurtland, boiling crab, 85C, Gyu Kaku (although a little expensive) & KOBA TOFU!! I LOVE Koba tofu SO MUCH!! (: Did you go to the koba in Irvine? The one in Diamond Bar is better I think!! >< haha but then i've never tried the one at Irvine.. & I love yogurtland cause it's so cheap XD haha~ & Genki Living.... when it first opened in diamond plaza, it was really popular and really good tasting, but as it got older, it became less popular and they gave you less fruits and stuff inside your crepe so the quality kind of deteriorated ): I really liked it in the beginning though~ & 85 C is really good! I don't know why the cake you had was bad T__T I like the strawberry tiramisu & the really popular taro swirl bun~ It's huge and really cheap! & boiling crab.. hahaha~ i just ate there 2 days ago XD Even though I don't really like seafood, the cajun fries are soo good~
ReplyDeleteI really want to go to IMATS next year! If you go to LA next year, I think you should try Half & Half or Meow Meow Cafe here in Rowland Heights~ Those two are really popular for the Iced milk, boba + pudding drinks (: & the line for half & half is sometimes 1 hour but people still line up o__o haha~ Maybe next year! (:
I loovvvvveee Shinsengumi!!! One of the best ramen places ever!!!
ReplyDeleteI heard that Mentatsu near Mitsuwa in Costa Mesa is more authentic though? Let me know when you're in Irvine next time, we'll go there!!! And you should definitely check out Shibuya closet (right near Mitsuwa and two doors down from Mentatsu)! Shibuya closet actually sells gyaru brand!! *w* I bet Reiko-san, the owner would loveeee you!!!
That takoyaki looks so good! I'm sad that the San Diego and Costa Mesa one rarely ever has fresh takoyaki like that, and they rarely even carry taiyaki! ;A;
<3 It was so nice meeting youuuu, you're soooo lovely and the epitome of kawaii and dolly. >w<
... & I am officially starving XD lol
